If you’re thinking about staying at Chalet Oz, you probably want to know the practical details as well as whether the place looks nice in the photos.

How many people does it really sleep? How far is Mt Rigi? Where do you park? Can you add private wellness? And does the kitchen have enough in it to prepare proper meals rather than survive on sandwiches for three days?

So here are the answers to the questions guests most often ask before booking our holiday home in Vitznau.

Where is Chalet Oz in Vitznau?

Chalet Oz is a modern two-bedroom holiday chalet in central Vitznau, Canton Lucerne, close to Lake Lucerne and Mt Rigi.

The chalet sits slightly above the village, behind our family home. It feels peaceful and private, but you certainly don’t need to disappear into the mountains to get here.

The Vitznau Rigi railway is approximately four minutes away on foot and the boat landing approximately seven minutes. The lake, village restaurants and local amenities are also within easy walking distance.

That makes Chalet Oz a useful base if you want to explore Mt Rigi, travel around Lake Lucerne by boat or simply spend a few days without getting into the car every time you want to go somewhere.

You can see the chalet, room layout and facilities here.

How many guests can stay at Chalet Oz?

Chalet Oz accommodates a maximum of four guests.

There are two separate bedrooms, one with a queen bed and the other with two single beds. You also have an open-plan living and dining area, bathroom and full kitchen.

The layout works well for a family of four, friends travelling together or a couple who simply likes having a little more space.

And because there are proper bedrooms rather than sofa beds in the living room, nobody has to dismantle their bed before breakfast. Always a bonus.

Is Chalet Oz suitable for families with children?

Yes. Chalet Oz works particularly well for families who want the practical bits sorted without staying somewhere that feels completely centred around children.

Two separate bedrooms give everyone their own sleeping space. You also have a full kitchen, washer-dryer, fenced back garden and room to eat and relax together.

A travel cot and high chair are available on request, and you’ll find board games and other useful extras in the chalet.

The chalet is not fully childproofed, however, so parents of very young children should bear that in mind.

Can we book private wellness during our Chalet Oz stay?

Yes. Guests staying at Chalet Oz can book private time at Harmony Wellness Suite, located a short walk away at the front of our family property.

The suite has a sauna, private hot tub in a glass-and-timber pavilion, revitalising shower, footbath and relaxation room.

When you book Harmony Wellness, the suite is reserved privately for your group during your booked time. There are no other wellness guests sharing the facilities with you.

Chalet Oz guests also receive CHF25 off each standard Harmony Wellness booking.

Wellness is booked separately from the chalet and is subject to availability, so if a sauna and hot tub evening is high on your holiday wish list, we recommend arranging it before you arrive.

Where do we park at Chalet Oz?

One private parking space is provided for Chalet Oz guests at the front of our family property.

From the parking area there is a short uphill walk to the chalet behind the house. It isn’t far, but it is useful to know before arriving with several suitcases, a pushchair or children who have suddenly decided their legs no longer work.

If you’re bringing a second car, paid public parking is available near the village church.

Once you are settled in, the central Vitznau location means you may find the car stays exactly where you left it while you head to the lake, boat or Rigi railway on foot.

Why book Chalet Oz directly?

Booking directly means you’re dealing with us from the beginning.

You can check the current direct rate and availability in Swiss francs, and if you have a question about the chalet, your family, parking, wellness or anything else, just ask Karen before committing to the booking.

For bookings made more than six weeks before arrival, a CHF200 deposit secures your reservation and the balance is due six weeks before your stay. If you book within six weeks of arrival, payment is due in full.

Payment can be made securely by credit card through Stripe or by bank transfer.

You’ll find the full details in our Booking Terms and Conditions.

What is in the Chalet Oz kitchen?

Chalet Oz has a full kitchen, which gives you the freedom to prepare meals and eat when it suits you.

You can make breakfast before heading up Mt Rigi, have something easy after a day out, or spend an evening at the chalet without needing to find a restaurant.

There is a fondue and raclette set, a chocolate fondue set and the everyday kitchen equipment you need for a self-catering stay.

Outside, the private balcony has views towards Lake Lucerne and the fenced back garden looks towards the mountains. There is also a BBQ in the garden for meals outside when the weather behaves itself.

What can we do near Chalet Oz?

Vitznau is a very handy place to explore both Lake Lucerne and Mt Rigi.

You can take the Rigi railway straight up the mountain, catch a boat from Vitznau across Lake Lucerne, spend a day in Lucerne or stay closer to the village for walking, swimming and something good to eat.

Guests also receive our digital guidebook, with practical chalet information and our own suggestions for restaurants, walks, rainy-day ideas and days out.

We’ve also put many of our recommendations together on our Things to Do in Vitznau and Lake Lucerne page, which is useful if you’re still deciding how many days you want to stay.

Because we live in Vitznau ourselves, you can always ask us too. We would much rather send you somewhere we genuinely like than leave you at the mercy of a random internet list.

How long is the minimum stay at Chalet Oz?

The usual minimum stay at Chalet Oz is two nights.

During July and August, the minimum stay is three nights.

The chalet accommodates a maximum of four guests. Pets are not permitted, smoking and vaping are not allowed inside, and quiet hours are from 22:00 to 07:00.

What is it actually like to stay at Chalet Oz?

The easiest answer is that you have your own chalet and your own space, but you’re not left trying to work everything out by yourself.

We live on the same property, so help is nearby if you need it. At the same time, the chalet is entirely your space during your stay.

That balance is quite important to us. Chalet Oz is family-run and personal, but we’re not planning to pop round every ten minutes to ask how your holiday is going.

If you want to hear what previous guests thought rather than taking our word for it, you can also read our Chalet Oz guest reviews.
