Hirschpark has been part of Lucerne since 1614, making it one of the oldest attractions in the region, yet it remains a wonderfully simple pleasure — a quiet city park where around two dozen deer live, free to view any time and free to enter. Morning feeding, from 8 to 10am, is the highlight for younger guests, who get to hand-feed the deer through the fence under the watchful eye of the park keepers. It’s unhurried, unstructured and entirely free, which makes it an easy add-on to a day already built around a boat trip or a wander through Lucerne’s old town. Pair it with a walk along the lake promenade or a stop at the covered bridges nearby, and you’ve got a half-day that costs nothing but is genuinely memorable for kids. Go in the morning if feeding time matters to your family; otherwise, any time of day is calm and pleasant.
